Homebirth Safety

Marilyn-Dante-474x342A 2017 study by Melissa Cheney and others analyzed over 47,000 community births to assess the relative safety of birth in the community setting (home or birth centers).  The results were impressive and showed that community birth is a safe option for pregnant people, particularly when in the care of experienced midwives that provide ongoing assessment of mama-baby to ensure that the pregnancy continues to be low-risk.

We have personally experienced these same results.  As your midwives,  we are careful to assess your and your baby’s health throughout your pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum period.  If anything comes up that indicates a need for more testing or a possible transfer of care, we do not hesitate to make that decision with your informed consent.

If you would like more information about our personal birth statistics, please do not hesitate to ask.
